Convicted terrorist Ahmed Samsam: “I am on a hunger strike.”
Danish citizen Ahmed Samsam, who is imprisoned on terrorism charges and who, according to several media outlets, worked with Danish intelligence services, has begun a hunger strike, his lawyer Erbil Kaya confirmed to BT.
Late on Wednesday evening, Ahmed Samsam wrote on his personal Facebook page that he was beginning a hunger strike: “I am starting a hunger strike from today until the Criminal Investigation Department and the Danish judiciary investigate my case and treat me fairly.”.
The Berlingske newspaper had previously revealed that Ahmed Samsam was accused, during a holiday in Spain in 2017, of joining the ISIS terrorist organization during his trips to Syria.
In 2018, a Spanish court convicted Ahmed Samsam of terrorism. According to several media outlets, Ahmed Samsam worked as an agent for Danish intelligence services in Syria.
After spending several years in several Spanish prisons, Ahmed Samsam’s prison sentence was reduced to six years by the Glostrup court in Denmark, and he is now serving his sentence in Enner Mark prison near Horsens in Denmark.
In December of last year, lawyer Erbil Kaya, on behalf of his client, summoned the Defense Intelligence Service and the Police Intelligence Service.
His case is expected to begin in October 2023.
It is worth noting that parties in the Danish parliament recently called for an investigation into the case of Ahmed Samsam during the last parliamentary elections, as his name was brought up again when the dismissed head of Danish intelligence - who is facing charges related to leaking state secrets - published a book in which he mentioned the name of Ahmed Samsam.
