Local news outlets have just reported that Stockholm regional police chief Mats Löfving was found dead in his home, according to the Swedish news agency TT, Wednesday evening.
At 7 pm, Swedish police received a report of a person injured in a house. It was later revealed that the person was Mats Löfving (61 years old), who was found dead in his home in Norrköping.
According to police spokesman Dennis Johansson Stromberg, as reported by Aftonbladet, he stated: “At the moment there are many question marks about what happened. We don’t know what happened and we cannot rule out a crime that was not committed, and therefore we have opened a preliminary investigation into murder. It is standard procedure when we cannot explain what happened.”.

Mats Löfving was the central figure in the investigation into a relationship he had with the former head of intelligence at the Swedish National Police Operations Department (NOA), Linda Staaf. On Wednesday, the internal investigation into the case was published, concluding that Löfving should be reinstated or dismissed, according to the newspaper Aftonbladet. The case has garnered significant media attention in Sweden, as it centered on the fact that Mats Löfving was deputy commander of the National Police when Linda Staaf was appointed head of the National Intelligence Service at the same time they were having a private relationship. In this regard, the investigation found that Mats Löfving did not commit any wrongdoing, as Linda Staaf possessed the appropriate skills for the position. On the other hand, the investigation found it problematic that Mats Löfving made a decision regarding whether Linda Staaf was capable of carrying a weapon on duty.
