A report issued by the Copenhagen police showed that minors are increasingly involved in selling cannabis in Christiania, Copenhagen.
Between September 1 and November 21, Copenhagen police charged 17 people under the age of 18 with selling euphoric drugs in Christiania.
Specifically, it concerns teenagers as young as 15 who have been arrested. Police believe this is a new trend, with teenagers working in retail stalls on Pusher Street in Christiania, and thus being linked to the organized cannabis trade backed by gangs and rock groups.
Police inspector Tommy Larsen stated, “In the past, in Christiania they would intervene and shout at them, but now we can see that children aged 15 and 16 stand behind the stalls and nothing happens.” According to Tommy Larsen, this creates problems for the minors in several ways, as they end up in a situation where they are at a “very high level of dangerous behavior.”.
Tommy Larsen points out that young people stand up to sell at retail stalls, risking being charged by the police, and risking losing the hashish or money they then have to pay back to whoever is behind it. Thus, according to the police inspector, young people and minors are under pressure to regulate the hashish trade and the gang environment.
According to the police, minors are guilty of organized cannabis trafficking in Christiania if, for example, they sell cannabis, contribute to dividing it into smaller pieces, or if they are guards.
