The Danish Ministry of Defence released a statement Saturday morning regarding Denmark's plan to acquire sea mines as part of its defense strengthening program. The statement reads as follows:

Denmark is purchasing a larger number of sea mines to strengthen the defense of Danish inland waters and to contribute to NATO's overall defense and deterrence.

The acquisition of hundreds of sea mines contributes to the Danish Armed Forces' ability to control and deny access to Danish waters. This acquisition enhances the combat capabilities of the Danish Armed Forces and is funded by the Acceleration Fund.

Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen says: “The acquisition of hundreds of sea mines strengthens our defense in Danish inland waters. This is crucial in the current security situation, where Denmark’s geographical location plays a pivotal role. I am pleased that another much-needed capability is now available that will strengthen the navy.”.

The sea mines are being purchased on the recommendation of the Chief of Defence and are expected to be delivered in the period 2027-2029. The sea mines will be a useful element in Denmark's contribution to NATO's overall defence and deterrence in the region.

Sea mines give us a strategic advantage in controlling and protecting Danish waters. They provide an effective way to prevent unwanted vessels from entering critical areas, thus strengthening our overall defense capabilities. Given the increasing uncertainty in the Baltic Sea, it is essential that we can respond quickly to threats. Sea mines will contribute to ensuring our sovereignty and enhancing our ability to counter potential threats and protect the Kingdom. Commander of the Danish Navy, Søren Kjeldsen, says:

The agreement to strengthen the combat capabilities of the Danish Armed Forces allocated 50 billion Danish kroner, of which 25 billion kroner were earmarked for 2025 and 2026, respectively, in the Acceleration Fund to speed up the development of the Danish Armed Forces' combat capabilities.
· In addition, a framework of 10 billion kroner per year in the period 2027-2033 has been allocated to deal with the expenses resulting from decisions taken as a branch of the Acceleration Fund, including new acquisitions, more staff, buildings, etc.

The statement has ended.
