The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has just released a statement which reads:

“Iran’s top diplomatic representative in Denmark held talks today at the Foreign Ministry following several attacks targeting the civilian population.

At the request of Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, the Iranian chargé d'affaires to Denmark was summoned today for an interview at the Foreign Ministry.

This appeal was made to express the government’s condemnation of the Iranian regime’s use of violence against protesters, and to strongly urge Iran to comply with its international obligations, including the rights to freedom of expression, assembly and association, including ensuring free and unrestricted access to the Internet.

Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen stated the following:

“The Iranian regime has a long and brutal history of suppressing popular protests. We have witnessed this again in recent weeks, and it is completely unacceptable. We made this very clear to the Iranian chargé d'affaires today. The European Union has already imposed wide-ranging sanctions on Iran, and we are prepared to take further steps on the Danish side. As you know, we already support the designation of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization.”

The conversation took place earlier today in Asiatiseke Square. Since the Iranian ambassador to Denmark is currently absent, the conversation was held with the Iranian chargé d'affaires.”

The statement has ended.
