One of the first things that strikes visitors to Denmark, and especially its capital Copenhagen, is the widespread use of bicycles as a primary mode of transportation. Copenhagen residents cycle an average of 3 kilometers every day, which is 35 times the global average!
The Danes are accustomed to riding their bicycles in various and fluctuating weather conditions. They have special and convenient traffic lanes adjacent to the streets designated for cars, and other lanes that are sometimes found in forests, green spaces and plains, which makes cycling more attractive and enjoyable and far from the pollution caused by cars and trucks. There are also special bicycle parking spaces available in most places in the city, even in those where there are sometimes no parking spaces.
