The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement this Friday evening regarding Denmark's intention to support education efforts in poor countries worldwide, and this is what it said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The number of children out of school worldwide rose last year from 244 million to 250 million. The lingering effects of COVID-19, conflict, and climate change threaten to erase decades of hard-won progress in education and increase the risk that the most vulnerable children will not complete their education. Therefore, Denmark is supporting the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) with 250 million Danish kroner annually from 2022 to 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organization works to promote access to quality education for millions of children worldwide in poor and vulnerable countries, many of which are particularly hard hit by climate change. This is a particular focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cClimate change is preventing children from going to school in many parts of the world. When drought hits and children are forced to help the family work instead of completing their education, it can turn into a vicious cycle. Education gives children the opportunity to escape poverty and create a better future for themselves and their children. Education is absolutely essential for creating more equitable and sustainable societies, and that is why we must invest in access to quality education,\u201d said Dan Jorgensen, Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Half of the low-income countries have seen their education budgets cut by an average of 141 TP3T since 2020. The vast majority of the world\u2019s children who are either completely out of school or unable to read or do arithmetic despite attending school live in these countries. Additional resources are urgently needed to ensure that all children have access to a quality education. It is precisely for this reason that Denmark is supporting the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) with 250 million Danish kroner annually from 2022 to 2025, subject to the approval of the annual financial laws by the donor authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About the Global Campaign for Education<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) aims to address the global education crisis. The organization mobilizes partners and funding to help low-income countries reform their education systems, and its fund is the largest of its kind. GPE currently supports up to 90 partner countries, among other things, ensuring teacher training, integrating refugees and other marginalized groups into the school system, and investing in new and innovative teaching methods. The goal is for all children to receive at least 12 years of quality education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
