The Ministry of Foreigners and Integration has just released a statement regarding the Ministry's intention to establish a new center to strengthen efforts against negative social control, and this is what it said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Establishing a new center to combat negative social control and honor-related conflicts will help strengthen efforts across authorities and increase knowledge of the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government wants to focus more on how to eliminate negative social control, so that both children and adults of immigrant origin enjoy the same rights and freedoms as everyone else in Danish society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of this work, the government will establish the \u201cNational Centre for Efforts Against Negative Social Control and Honor-Related Conflicts\u201d, which will consolidate efforts across authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Negative social control can occur within the family, among children and young people both during and outside of school hours, in the workplace, and elsewhere. Therefore, strengthening the overall coordination framework would be beneficial, and the new center should ensure this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The center\u2019s area of particular priority work next year will be children and young people, who are often victims of negative social control and honor-related conflicts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new center, \u201cNational Center for Efforts to Combat Negative Social Control and Honor-Related Conflicts,\u201d is based at the Agency for International Employment and Integration (SIRI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister for Immigration and Integration Kar Dipvad stated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe social control associated with honor makes me extremely angry. Words cannot describe how tedious it is, it doesn\u2019t belong anywhere, but unfortunately it happens in dark pockets of Danish society.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Much has been accomplished in this area in recent years, but of course we must continually strengthen our efforts. Therefore, the government is working on new initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That's why we're now intensifying our efforts and establishing a new center. Of course, I don't imagine the center will solve all the region's problems. But I'm sure it will be beneficial to coordinate the many good efforts already underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trine Rask Thygesen, director of the International Employment and Integration Agency, says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt SIRI, we have focused for many years on working against negative social control and honor-related conflicts. Today, for example, we have security advisors across the country ready to help young people who are subjected to violence or threats because the family will not accept the young person\u2019s basic right to choose their life path. For example, when it comes to choosing education or a partner.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We must build on the good work, and with the new center we will take another step so that we can reach everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We will focus on cooperation between municipalities and the police, and we will try to reach out to many teachers, guidance counselors and other professionals who are close to young people in their daily lives, so that they can spot and act when they see signs of negative social control.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
