Imams of Sunni mosques in the capital region released a statement via video recording (see video below) which included the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Statement from Muslims in Denmark
Praise be to God, and peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, his companions, and all who follow him. Now then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Islamic institutions listed below met on this day, 22 Sha\u2019ban 1444 AH, corresponding to the fourteenth of March 2023 AD, to discuss the possibility of using astronomical calculations for the beginning of the Islamic months, in accordance with the legal controls approved by the jurists in a previous conference. These institutions are the Islamic Association in Denmark, the Hamad Bin Khalifa Cultural Center, the Scandinavian Waqf, the Islamic Cultural Center, the Islamic Center in Vestegn, Al-Noor Mosque, Al-Sunnah Mosque, and the Ottoman Mosque. The following was agreed upon:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First: The basis for determining the beginning of the lunar months is the visual sighting of the new moon, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, \u201cFast when you see it (the new moon) and break your fast when you see it.\u201d This has been the practice of the Muslim community throughout the past centuries. Second: The attendees believe that there is no legal impediment to using astronomical calculations, provided they adhere to the established conditions approved by Islamic scholars, given the exceptional accuracy of these calculations, which has led many prominent Muslim scholars to adopt them.
Third: It is a coincidence that the astronomical calculations this year are in complete agreement with the visual sighting of the crescent moon of the blessed month of Ramadan, corresponding to Thursday, the twenty-third of March, and that the blessed Eid al-Fitr will be on Friday, corresponding to the twenty-first of April. Therefore, we are pleased to extend our blessed congratulations to all Muslims on this noble and blessed occasion, and may you be well every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
