According to the Ministry of Immigration and Integration, the "Integration Index" is celebrating its tenth anniversary today. The ministry reported that things are progressing well with the integration of foreigners (immigrants and their descendants) in Denmark, and that the "Integration Index" results show progress towards integration goals over the past 10 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During these ten years, there has been positive progress for six of the nine goals. In 2012, the government at the time created an integration scale containing nine goals, and according to the results of the scale, there has been positive progress since 2012 for six of the goals, including the areas of work, education, self-determination and crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The most positive development has been in the field of education, as recent years have seen a significant increase in the number of immigrants aged 25 to 39 and their descendants of non-Western origin who grew up in Denmark and received higher education, with the proportion rising from 26% in 2012 to 41% in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Developments for some of the other targets in the scale also show that the proportion of young people of non-Western origin who have committed crimes has decreased, and that fewer young immigrants and grandchildren of non-Western origin are experiencing restrictions on self-determination over their private lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other hand, two targets have shown negative development since 2012: Danish skills and citizenship. New figures for 2022 show that the proportion of immigrants and their descendants of non-Western origin who reported being members of an association has decreased from 54% in 2012 to 47% in 2022. Over the past ten years, participation in associations has also declined for people of Danish origin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Comment from the Minister of Foreigners and Integration<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Minister for Immigration and Integration, Deppvad Beik, stated: \u201cI am pleased that things are progressing better with six of the nine integration goals. It shows that it is beneficial to have a strict immigration policy. When immigrants and their descendants of non-Western origin are integrated into Danish society, it benefits us all. We still face significant challenges in integration, but the good news is that things are slowly progressing.\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is worth noting that the integration survey results are constantly updated with new figures, statistics, and analyses. Recently, a number of new names of individuals who have acquired Danish citizenship were published, and today the results of the citizenship survey are being released. This year's survey focuses particularly on the participation of children and young people in sports associations.
