When the weather is good and the streets are crowded with pedestrians, the flow of criminals traveling to Denmark begins, and pickpockets are particularly active at major traffic intersections, in places with many pedestrians, and on crowded public transport buses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Copenhagen alone, from the beginning of the year until May 18, police recorded nearly 2,500 reports of thefts from pockets, bags and luggage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pickpocketing and theft are particularly prevalent on 20 streets in Copenhagen, perpetrated by a group of known criminals who account for up to 401,000 of all reports this year. The railway station plaza at Copenhagen Central Station is the second most common location for pickpocketing and theft. (See full list below)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Monday, a 66-year-old Serbian man was arrested and charged with six counts of theft and misuse of stolen payment cards. He was arrested based on several reports of pickpocketing on bus 4A in Valby and Frederiksberg. Police were able to arrest the man when he got off the bus with a bag he had stolen from another passenger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nationalities of most pickpockets, according to police<\/strong> Rasmussen stated that pickpockets often coordinate so that one of them distracts the victim or diverts his attention so that the other can pickpocket or steal from the bag or pocket without the victim realizing that something is being stolen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Copenhagen police encourage following a number of simple precautions that make it more difficult for pickpockets to steal. For example, a closed belt bag is always a good idea, and a front pocket is better than a back pocket. According to Copenhagen Deputy Police Inspector Lars Feldt Rasmussen, the number of pickpockets is currently increasing and moving towards the same level as before the Corona crisis, and he adds that it is particularly Eastern Europeans who commit them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
