Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen will present a new proposal on higher education reforms on Friday, as the government seeks to end the high requirements for entry into higher education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Frederiksen will announce the proposal plan on Friday during her speech as leader of the (ruling) Social Democratic Party at Folkem\u00f8det in Bornholm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The proposal states that a grade of 10 in high school should be the maximum requirement for admission to higher education majors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Prime Minister\u2019s proposal also includes allowing people with five years of work experience to apply through quota 2 for many higher education disciplines even if they do not have a secondary education, as a secondary education certificate is currently one of the main requirements for applying to all academic bachelor\u2019s degree programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government's proposal comes just over two months after the Education Reform Commission submitted its proposal to reform the education sector, which suggested that the maximum grade should be 9 as a requirement for entry into higher education disciplines. According to the commission, an unhealthy culture has emerged in secondary schools where grades have become more important than learning. At the same time, students with higher grades apply for disciplines that require the maximum grade because they are seen as attractive, leading to high demand for a few disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Ministry of Education, there are 34 programs that require an average grade of 10 or higher, with student demand exceeding the available seats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If the proposal is implemented, the affected programs will be required to develop admission standards, which could include, for example, entrance exams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This proposal has the support of the SF party, and education spokesperson Jacob Mark said that the SF party made the same proposal in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
