The Cavling Committee stated in its presentation of the project that \u201cthrough diligent work and confidential intelligence, they revealed that those in power had withheld important information about Danish children in Kurdish detention camps.\u201d The newspaper Ekstra Bladet described in several articles that the Defense Intelligence Service had warned the government that children in the camps were at risk of being kidnapped by the Islamic State (ISIS). In addition, there was a risk that the extremist Islamic organization would train the children to carry out attacks in their countries of origin, according to the source. The government was later criticized for not informing Parliament of the intelligence agencies\u2019 assessments.<\/p>\n\n\n\nRegarding the reasons for this year's award, the committee noted that the journalists had unique access to information and, moreover, appeared to have succeeded in conveying a highly political issue with composure. Three other media outlets were also nominated for this year's Cavling Award, including the documentary series "Flesh-Eating Bacteria," which aired on DR. Jacob Friberg of BT was nominated for his coverage of the mink issue, and three journalists from Fagbladet 3F were nominated for their reporting on the conditions of foreign workers in Danish agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
