The National Health Council will now offer a vaccine to people who have been in close contact with those infected with monkeypox.
Currently, two Danes have been diagnosed with monkeypox and three other possible cases are being investigated.
The vaccine is not approved for monkeypox
The vaccine is produced by the Danish company Bavarian Nordic, and its use has been approved against smallpox in Denmark but not against monkeypox.
However, according to DR, the National Health Council confirms that the vaccine can be used effectively against monkeypox and that doctors specializing in infectious diseases should prescribe the vaccine.
It is worth noting that the World Health Organization does not see any need for mass vaccination against monkeypox.
Health Minister Magnus Heunicke has called for a meeting of health experts from parliamentary parties on monkeypox, which will also include the State Serum Institute and the National Board of Health.
