Police have not released the man's identity but stated he is 39 years old. Witnesses told BT that he was tall, slim, and had relatively long blond hair. The witnesses did not describe him as appearing to be of immigrant or Middle Eastern origin, a point that has been widely discussed on social media regarding the assailant's identity and whether he is an immigrant. However, according to the witnesses, this does not seem to be the case. The Prime Minister's office has not commented on the matter.

Eyewitnesses told BT that as Mette Frederiksen was walking from Nørreport towards Strøget (walking street) in Copenhagen shortly before 6 p.m., a man came from the opposite direction and shoved her hard on the shoulder, causing her to fall to the side. The shove almost knocked Mette Frederiksen off her feet, but she did not fall to the ground, and her bodyguards quickly came to her aid.

The Prime Minister's office stated that Mette Frederiksen sustained minor injuries, as evidenced by her visit to Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen, and that she is in good health despite being shaken by the incident. The Prime Minister has cancelled her scheduled program for today.

The news was reported by major international media outlets on their front pages yesterday, and many leaders and high-level figures reacted to the news, showing their full support for Mette Frederiksen and condemning the violence.
