A report published by Danish Radio states that approximately 19,000 adults in Denmark were born and raised there but are not Danish citizens, according to Danish statistics. Many of their descendants experience an identity crisis when they discover they are not Danish citizens, according to Christian Krigbaum Jensen, an associate professor of politics and administration at Aalborg University and a researcher in citizenship issues. The report also presented examples of young people facing difficulties traveling with their schoolmates on trips abroad and participating in activities due to visa requirements for certain countries.

A bill to facilitate access to citizenship was voted down.
Before the last summer holiday, the Radicals proposed a bill to make it easier for children born and raised in Denmark to obtain citizenship, provided they do not commit crimes and pass at least the ninth-grade exams. However, the proposal was unsuccessful as it only received the necessary support from the Socialist People's Party, the Unity List Party, the Alternative Party, and the Christian Democrats.
Citizenship is a gift, not a right.
Conversely, the Conservative Party, the Danish People's Party, and the New Bourgeois Party want the law to be stricter in order to avoid attracting more refugees and immigrants to Denmark.
وترى ماري كراروب المتحدثة باسم حزب الشعب الدنماركي أن هذا الشأن هو مسؤولية الآباء، حيث أن هناك عدة آلاف ليسوا مواطنين دنماركيين، على الرغم من أنهم ولدوا وترعرعوا في البلاد، وتصفهم بأنهم خذلوا أبناءهم بعدم الحصول على الجنسية الدنماركية، ذلك أن الآباء لم يسعوا لأن يكونوا مواطنين وبالتالي لم تُمنح الجنسية الدنماركية لأطفالهم، وتضيف “لا ينبغي أن يكون لدى الدنمارك الكثير من المهاجرين”.
وعلقت ميته تيسن من حزب البرجوازيين الجدد بأنه من الممكن -بسهولة- الاستمتاع بحياة جيدة في الدنمارك دون أن تكون مواطناً دنماركياً، ويسعى الحزب إلى منح الجنسية إلى 2 – 300 شخص فقط في السنة، وتصف الجنسية بأنها هدية عظيمة يجب أن تمنح لعدد قليل جداً من الاشخاص وليست حقاً مكتسباً.
It is worth noting that the New Bourgeois Party promoted during its recent election campaign for municipal and regional councils that it seeks to change the election law so that non-Danes are not allowed to vote in municipal and regional council elections, contrary to the current law which allows this.
