June 5th: Denmark celebrates Constitution Day and it is a public holiday throughout the country.

Denmark celebrates Constitution Day on June 5th every year, called Grundlovsdag in Danish, as the first constitution was signed on this day in 1849 and the current constitution in 1953.

The Kingdom of Denmark is one of the few countries in the world that does not have an official national day, but Constitution Day is sometimes considered equivalent to such a day. It is an important day to celebrate Danish democracy on a wide scale, with celebrations taking place throughout Denmark through church gatherings, associations, organizations and political parties. The celebrations include events such as raising the Danish flag (Dannebrog) as well as giving political speeches.
